17th Century Saturdays’ Program, “Witchcraft in Chebacco” a chilling success!

In cooperation with the Essex National Heritage Commission, The Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum is participating in a program called “17th Century Saturdays In Essex County.” On Saturday, July 7th, Museum Volunteer David Whittredge presented a program entitled, “Witchcraft in Chebacco.” Dave presented the story of Mehitable Downing, the Chebacco woman accused of practicing witchcraft. The group also visited the Congregational Church to learn about Rev. John Wise’s petition to save John Proctor, another among the accused. Upcoming “17th Century Saturdays” programs will take place on August 4th, September 1 and October 6.
